Tales from Port Navas Creek
A children’s trilogy set in the Cornish woodlands — where courage, riddles, and woodland creatures confront a darker force.
For readers aged 6+, written to be enjoyed both independently and read aloud.
Plot
Set in the woodlands along Cornwall’s Helford River, the stories follow seven young creatures as they resist the rise of the Crow dynasty. Along the way, they face riddles, moral dilemmas, and more than a few courtroom twists.
At heart, the trilogy is a tale of justice, courage, and collective responsibility – inviting readers into a world where bravery and wit matter just as much as magic.
Inspiration
The books were written for Guy’s seven grandchildren and shaped by decades of work in law and governance. The Cornish setting reflects a deep personal connection to place, while the themes draw on long-held questions about fairness, accountability and doing the right thing when the odds are stacked against you.
The trilogy is illustrated by Margaret Beringer, whose drawings bring warmth, texture and emotional depth to the characters and their world.
“Children’s books are dismissed by some as being too simple to read — yet Guy Beringer’s trilogy proves how wrong that assumption is.
Across the volumes readers will encounter a series of daring adventures, unique characters, irony, humour and enlightening descriptions filled with both realistic and fictional elements. Here, children of all ages can explore a fantastic world of woodland creatures whose journeys explore themes from friendship to the complexities of law.
The Tales from Port Navas Creek is one of the most engaging children’s trilogies I have read and I particularly enjoyed that it has many legal twists.”
